These footsteps led to nowhere on the aptly named "Lost Coast" of California. It was a deserted place.
A cold morning fog is common on the northern California coast, taking a while to burn off. In fact, Mark Twain was known to say, "the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco"!
